Privacy Policy

Who I am:

Our website address is: http://teresa.grableronline.com.

My name is Teresa Grabler. I have a rare cancer called uterine myxoid leiomyosarcoma. I am using this site to sporadically blog about my experiences, fun things I’m getting to do (despite being in active treatment), and to provide information to others who are also fighting LMS, or who have family and/or friends with it.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Personal data is any data that could possibly identify you (ex: your name). On this site, it is collected if you want to leave a comment and/or contact me. We collect data to minimize spammers, and so that we know who we are responding to; it helps tailor my or Amanda’s replies!

The Privacy Policy has been set-up to help us comply with the EU’s GDPR policy, which went into effect on May 25, 2018. You can read about it here (easier) or read here (everything).

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you are using a third-party site to leave comments (Facebook, Disqus), they may be collecting your data, which we have no control over.

  1. If you choose to comment on a post via Facebook, please know that this site uses the plugin Fancy Facebook Comments, which is GDPR compliant. You can read their policies here.
  2. If you use Disqus, their policy is here, and if you connect with Gravatar, their info is here.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

We use Contact Form 7. They discuss GDPR here. We’ve used their recommendations for our contact form. I also use the app Flamingo since Contact Form 7 doesn’t save anything.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

Who we share your data with

Absolutely nobody. If this changes, we will be sure to let you know.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Additional information

Please note that this is not a SSL site (http not https). I am running fundraisers on and off to help me with the costs of having cancer, keeping our home, getting out to do some Wish List activities while my health is good, etc. For your safety and security, they will only be run through the secure sites of PayPal and Google Pay (aka Google Wallet). (Alternatively, if you want to donate offline with a regular check, that is also an option.)
